The situation in Hadramawt governorate in eastern Yemen remains stagnant as Al-Wadi and Desert districts see an influx of forces from Aden governorate and neighboring governorates.

Local sources report that life has started to normalize to some extent in the town of Sayun, the valley’s capital, but the movement of military vehicles continues on most streets, with an intense deployment of military checkpoints, especially during the night.

The troops are arriving

Activists on social media reported that teams belonging to the Anti-Terrorism Service of the Transitional Council arrived on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in the city of Sayun, coinciding with the arrival of vehicles and personnel from the National Shield Forces, which began deploying three days ago in Al-Wadi and Desert districts.

Local sources report that the areas of Al-Abr, Al-Khasha’a and Al-Wadiah, in the Hadhramaut desert, have been transformed into military barracks, reflecting the deployment of forces affiliated with the Transitional Council and the National Shield in these areas.

Implementation of the Riyadh Agreement

For his part, Anwar Al-Tamimi said in a statement to the Saudi channel Al-Arabiya on Sunday evening that the control of Wadi Hadhramaut by southern forces was part of the implementation of the Riyadh agreement, stressing that the agreement explicitly stipulated the withdrawal of forces from the first military region and their direction to confront the Houthi group.

Al-Tamimi explained that the southern forces’ movements were based on urgent assessments on the ground to limit smuggling operations and prevent what he described as possible cooperation between the Houthi group and the Al-Shabaab group in Somalia.

He stressed that the movements in Hadhramaut took place considering the Transitional Council as part of the legitimacy in Yemen, considering that what happened reflects the Council’s commitment to the agreed political and security path.

Damage and casualties

For its part, the local authority of Wadi Hadhramaut said in a statement released on Sunday that the building of the General Administration of Public Security in the valley was seriously damaged, which led to the almost complete shutdown of the operation of a number of public facilities from dawn on Wednesday, December 3 until the 7 of the same month, indicating that it had made intensive efforts to normalize life and ensure the continued provision of basic services to citizens as a top priority.

The press release explains that the process of evaluating the results and counting the impacts and human and material losses is still ongoing, stressing that the delay in announcing the final data is due to the difficulty of completing the inventory and documentation work given the current situation, stressing that this will be completed and that the results will be announced as soon as they are ready.

According to data from the office of the Ministry of Public Health and Population in Wadi Hadramaut, the initial toll from the events of December 14 amounts to “67” wounded soldiers and “35” dead soldiers, in addition to “7” injured civilians, without any civilian deaths being recorded.
